Little Red and I have been busy … Newsletter debuts Wednesday

Two weeks into this venture called The 99 and I've already put a few miles on LR (Little Red, my 11-year-old pickup) crossing the county.

  • Ten baseball and softball games - McMinnville, Newberg, Dayton, Yamhill, Willamina and one trip to Hillsboro for a state quarterfinal.
  • A walk through a cemetery on a quiet afternoon with a story already forming.
  • A local restaurant I can't wait to tell you about.
  • A stop at Veterans Park in Sheridan on Memorial Day on my way back from Willamina.
  • A controlled burn on 99W in Lafayette that became The 99's very first post.

This is what The 99 is supposed to feel like. Not built from a desk. Not built from AI.

Built from showing up.

I've spent 25 years in media creating content in many facets - writing, photography, videography, graphic design, etc. I understand what quality local coverage looks like - and I know what's been missing.

So here's what The 99 is about: Good vibes only. The people, businesses and places that make Yamhill County worth living in. Restaurants worth the drive. Events worth your weekend. History worth knowing. Sports worth watching. Discovering Yamhill County's gems together. No politics. No crime. Just everything that makes this place great.

The first newsletter drops this Wednesday, June 3. The cost? Nothin’.

Know Yamhill County.

Inside Satyr Fire, Dayton's Newest Pour

The June 4 opening of the Satyr Fire tasting room put Dayton another step closer for vying to be the next big destination for wine tasting in the Willamette Valley. Paul Johnson founded the Satyr Fire label in 2019, but has been producing wine even longer - and the experience showed on my recent visit. Just days after their launch, I spoke to him by phone as he was labeling bottles. “The whole weekend was just absolutely fantastic," Johnson said. "We saw more than 125 people each day. We saw s
