VIDEO HIGHLIGHT

The Sherwood boys soccer team entered Monday's Class 6A state qualification matchup seeded 14th in the qualifying round and 4-8-2 on the season on the road against Tualatin - the No. 3 seed with only one loss to its name at 8-1-5.

Not to sound cliche, but there's a reason they still play the game.

The Bowmen knocked off the Wolves in penalty kicks 4-2 to win the match 2-1 and advance to the state tournament. Jacob Chou put the finishing touches on the match, putting in the penalty to send Sherwood to the next round.

The Bowmen will play Saturday, but won't find out against who until the final four qualification round games are completed and the 24-team field is filled out. Sixteen teams earned automatic bids - here is the 6A bracket with the first 16 teams already seeded.

Newberg's season comes to an end at West Linn

The Newberg boys soccer team fell to West Linn, 2-0, on Monday in West Linn during the Class 6A state qualification round - ending the Tigers' season.

Newberg finished the season 6-3-5.

Dayton beats Santiam Christian in four to claim West Valley League crown

VIDEO HIGHLIGHT DAYTON — To say the Dayton volleyball team celebrates with vigor is an understatement. And there was a lot "vigor" happening Saturday night in Dayton. The Pirates dominated Santiam Christian in game one, and other than a blip in game two, didn't really slow down as Dayton defeated the Eagles 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18) to win the West Valley League title. Both teams will now await their seeding in the 18-team Class 3A state tournament - set to start this upcoming week.
