Yamhill County will enter Friday's baseball and softball state quarterfinals with four teams still alive after YamCo went 4-2 Wednesday in the round of 16.

Newberg baseball continued its great 2026 season with an 8-4 win over North Medford to advance to the Class 6A state quarterfinals while McMinnville softball had the upset of the day as the 14th-seeded Grizzlies knocked off Pacific Conference foe and No. 3 Forest Grove 7-4 in Forest Grove.

In 3A, No. 4 Dayton softball looked like the defending state runner-up with a convincing 11-2 win over No. 13 Warrenton while No. 3 Yamhill-Carlton jumped out to an early lead and held off a gritty No. 14 Valley Catholic squad, 7-6.

McMinnville nearly pulled off two big upsets Wednesday as the baseball team fell just short to No. 3 West Linn 4-3 while Willamina/Sheridan fell to top-seeded Vale 10-0 in Eastern Oregon.
