Yamhill-Carlton, Dayton fall in Class 3A state softball semifinals

The final two teams from Yamhill County left in either the baseball or softball team saw their seasons come to an end as No. 3 Yamhill-Carlton fell at No. 2 South Umpqua 5-0 while No. 4 Dayton lost at No. 1 Vale 7-1 on Tuesday in the Class 3A state softball semifinals.

In YCHS' loss, South Umpqua (27-2 overall) scored a pair of runs in the first to take an early lead before adding a run in the third and two more in the fifth. The Tigers were held to one hit - a double from Addison Tuning. Taylor Bradfield went the distance for YCHS - racking up 13 strikeouts in the loss. The Tigers finish the season 26-4.

Dayton and Vale were scoreless through the first two innings before Vale scored four runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Pirates got on the board in the sixth on an RBI single from freshman Emmy Riley to score Charly Upmeyer - who singled earlier in the inning. Dayton finishes the season 23-6.
